Bookinis & Board Shorts

It has been WARM! So, I packed up and took the kids swimming at the gym this afternoon. They were crazy excited and would NOT sit still for a picture. I BEGGED, NO LUCK....

Check out those muscles.. I mean HUGE floaties!

This year I went with "bookinis" (Molly's pronunciation) for the girls, thinking it would make quadruple bathroom trips WAY faster. Let me tell you.... I WAS RIGHT!!! Russ is super proud of his spider man shorts too.

And.. BREAK!

The second I said "GO," our kids were in water. They start "official" swim lessons next month and can't wait. Being a swimmer myself, I have been working with them since they were babies. They take to the water like fish to the sea. I'm so proud!!! This was their first dip in the pool of 2010 and they were diving in, kicking their legs, stroking their arms, and holding their breaths like little pros.

Just like last year - we're lathering up early and often....

We buy this stuff in bulk at Costco!

It's so fun to watch them play together. Their personalities shine in everything they do. Libby is a miniature DARE DEVIL! Molly is WAY mature and leads the pack. Ally is the care giver and WORRIES about everyone at all times. Russ....well, Russ just goes with flow and stirs up the pot as often as he can... little turd! ;)

Russ was the last one in the water today and the last one out. When I gave them the "5 minutes," warning he cried, "NO, I WANT TO STAY HERE FOREVER AND EVER!" I laughed and said, "FOREVER AND EVER?" "Yes," he said, "FOREVER AND EVER." Then I laughed and said, "Dude your a prune, look at your hands!"

"Touche."

"Don't bother me, I'm sun bathing."

"Life just does not get better than this."

The girls were a bit easier to get going- with promises of returning soon. As we headed to the car, the kids skipping and laughing, Molly said, "Oh mommy, your the best mommy, thank you for letting us swim at the gym." I responded, "You are sooooo welcome & your THE BEST Mo Mo in the world." She hugged me and jumped in the car. Smart little booty kisser ;).

With weather in the high 80's/low 90's it's been amazing. BUT, it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. You know what they say, "April showers bring May flowers!" All I know is I'm going to enjoying every moment with them before I hit the OR.

Have a great week everyone!
PS: For all you bargain shoppers out there, I got all 4 swim suits at Kmart 40% off this week. The arm floaties are from Toys R Us and were only $2.94 a set in their clearance section. Anywho, thought I'd share my great shopping finds. ;)

  2. Ah yes, sunscreening 4 little bodies.....it takes forever, doesn't it?! I have to start that whole process 30 minutes before we walk out the door or else someone will jump in the pool before being properly slathered.....do you like the spray better than the tube? I used to but seem to have issues with it clogging and then the container gets just slick enough it slips out of my hand while I'm trying to press the darn button down. The clear stuff comes out pretty nice, but we stopped using it after discovering it discolored the necks of all their soccer shirts....boohooo! Looks like you have a fabulous summer ahead with lots of pool time! It's great when kids love water.....

  3. How cool is that - your gym has an outdoor pool! Do you have an indoor pool at your gym too? You are a cool Mommy! Our YMCA only has an indoor pool at the one location and the other location requires you to join the pool for the summer. (East Coast weather does not let us swim outside as long as California tho) Love Love loving the girls adorable hair cuts.

Good luck with your surgery this week

  9. Thanks All!! It was a great day. Really really really really great. ;)

YES, LOVE the spray! I actually prefer coppertone (doesn't clog) but they aren't selling it at costco this year. The bboat does clog a bit. Only thing is.. you don't want to do it in the house b4 you go. I always make them line up on the patio, spray them and then dress them after they dry. Helps avoid the slippery floor.

Julie- I dress them alike bc it makes my life a MILLION times easier. They fight like cats and dogs when ANYTHING (even socks) is different. It's just a battle I choose to try to avoid as often as possible.

  11. Hey...I have been reading your blog for a long time now, but have never commented I dont think. Anyway, I'm in the Modesto area (just south of you). Thanks for posting the info on the suits and floaties...I'm headed to kmart this afternoon for my daughters suit. She is 4 yrs old. I have a blog but have not posted in a few years.

  12. you are so smart with the bookinis. We switched to tankinis when we potty trained - even now, she prefers "modest" tankinis for the same reason.

I want some swimming weather, boohoo.

  14. Ok, can I be tacky and ask how much you pay for your gym? I would much rather pay for a gym where I could take the kids to the pool! Are you at Cal Fit?

  15. 80s/90s? It was FREEZING here again today! We're in this weird pattern of warm/cold here every other day and they've turned off the heat in my school...so when its cold - we are popsicles! I never even took my coat off today and was still cold!

What a fun day for you and your kiddos though! I'm impressed that they all do so well in the water. I'm not much of a swimmer and my kids are not yet comfortable in the pool - plus Sarah hates to get water in her face!

Enjoy the rest of the week and good luck on Friday! I'll be thinking of you!

  17. Loving all these sweet comments! Sorry to all you cold weather folks. It rained all day yesterday if that makes up for it. ;)

Nonie, YES, we go to Cali Fit. It's a bit more expensive but worth every single dime. Conor and I keep saying that it's the best thing we have EVER done! Email me if you have any questions. mcnultyquads@gmail.com
